How you can help!

NSNS is run entirely by volunteers, with the exception of Rabbi Roni.

We are therefore always looking for volunteers to lead services, run events, help behind the scenes and think of new things for us to do as a community. Please indicate below how you would like to help.

Voluntary Membership Donations

As a charity we rely on your continued financial support to keep our activities running, our venues booked and our Rabbi paid. Rather than charge a fixed fee for membership since April 2019 we have moved to a fairer and more progressive model, where those able to contribute more are encouraged to do so, and those less financially able don’t need to apologise or ask permission to pay less.

We instead ask you to donate, as you are able, according to a progressive income based model (please see table of suggested donation amounts below). We will never ask you to declare your income to us or question you regarding your financial status. We only ask you to be honest and as generous as you can. Donations above and beyond those recommended are of course very welcome.

Choose you NSNS Membership type

There are two types of NSNS membership available, please consider which is correct for you.

Full membership - this is appropriate for people who are halachically Jewish. This membership will allow you to stand for council positions and vote at the annual general meeting. Membership for the Joint Jewish Burial Society (JJBS) is mandatory and £56 per year will be charged annually for this as a separate fee.

Associate membership - this may be appropriate for some people in the following groups: those who are full members at another synagogue and don't wish to pay into two burial schemes but wish to support NSNS; those who are part of our conversion course; non-Jewish partners; people who are not halachically Jewish but wish to be officially associated with our community.
Burial Society

Inclusion in the Jewish Joint Burial Society (JJBS) is a mandatory condition of Full NSNS membership. You can visit their website at: www.jjbs.org.uk. JJBS Membership is £56, per person per year, and will be billed to your account annually.

Gift Aid

Boost your donation by 25p of Gift Aid for every £1 you donate

Gift Aid is reclaimed by the charity from the tax you pay for the current tax year. Your address is needed to identify you as a current UK taxpayer.

Please consider allowing NSNS to claim Gift Aid on your membership donation.

You can read more about Gift Aid here

I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.
Please notify NSNS if you:
- want to cancel this declaration
- change your name or home address

- no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains

If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self-Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.

Masorti Judaism

Masorti Judaism is an umbrella organisation which provides services that one synagogue alone cannot offer. These include a pan-European youth movement (NOAM), a Rabbinic Court (or Beit Din) and outreach activities. Masorti Judaism UK represents NSNS members nationally and internationally, and in dialogue with other denominations and faith groups.

We would like to provide Masorti Judaism UK with your name and contact details. This information will be used to make you aware of activities and services provided by Masorti Judaism UK and other Masorti synagogues. It will not be passed on to any other organisations or third parties.

You can find out more here: www.masorti.org.uk

By answering this, you allow us to know a little more about you; what types of events you enjoy, opportunities you want, and experiences you value at New Stoke Newington Shul.
Please feel free to make any comments you wish in this box.

I declare that the information provided in this application is correct to the best of my knowledge. I understand it will serve as the basis of consideration of my membership of NSNS.

Information on how NSNS processes the data you give us and the measures taken to ensure it’s security can be found in our Privacy Policy. By completing this membership application you are agreeing to NSNS storing and managing your data.
